Brand voice is often talked about in vague terms, with advice along the lines of ""just be authentic!"" or ""just be unique!"". But the truth is, 'authenticity' is a mirage, and having a UNIQUE brand voice won't get you far unless it's also a GOOD brand voice. That’s why in my work as a brand voice specialist, I don’t solely rely on intuition: I also use metrics!

In this presentation, I'll show you how 4 specific linguistic metrics let you intentionally build a brand voice, so you can do more than just ‘feel it out’. Plus, I’ll give you examples of how different combinations of those 4 metrics can change the whole voice, and give you some exercises to try on your own. It’s gonna be a good time!

Hi, I'm Julia! I'm an RN, copywriter, and brand voice specialist. I'm from the West Coast of Canada, and now live in Maine with my partner and two pups! Being a nurse, it was a big shift for me to start my own business, and what I found was that so much of the advice out there about building a personal brand is either confusing, contradictory, cringe-worthy, or all three. It wasn't until I trained with Justin Blackman (the world's leading brand voice expert), that I realized it didn’t have to be that way – that having the right VOICE for your business is the missing piece in most marketing. Now I work with small businesses with big goals, and help them build their brand voice in a way that gives them the permission and the tools to have a business and brand they actually ENJOY!
